Science of Learning Centers (SLC) scientific symposium held at the October 2008 annual meeting of the Society for the Advancement of Chicanos and Native Americans in Science (SACNAS)

Professor Ramon Lopez, the CELEST diversity outreach consultant, organized an SLC-wide scientific symposium entitled “Brain, Mind, Learning: Research at the Science of Learning Centers” at the annual meeting of the Society for the Advancement of Chicanos and Native Americans in Science (SACNAS) that occurred in Salt Lake City UT on October 9–12 , 2008
(http://www.sacnas.org/confNew/confClient/pastConf/overview.asp?pc=27).

The 2008 SLC symposium speakers were George Alvarez and Barbara Shinn-Cunningham of CELEST, Francis Balcom of SILC, and Kirsten Butcher from the University of Utah for the PSLC.

This SLC symposium session was so well-received that the SACNAS organizers have invited Professor Lopez to once again organize an SLC-themed event at the October 15–18, 2009 annual meeting in Dallas TX, this time as the 60-minute plenary session to occur immediately after the conference opening reception ceremonies (http://www.sacnas.org/confNew/confClient/).
