Stephen Grossberg: Stephen Grossberg and Ennio Mingolla gave a 2-hour tutorial on "How the Brain Sees" at the first-ever annual Vision Sciences Society (VSS) Satellite Workshop. This competitively chosen tutorial was the only modeling presentation selected, May. One of five founding editors of Brains, Minds, and Media, a new open-access online journal whose goal is to advance teaching and educational technology in the neural and cognitive sciences, July. Invited to be an editor of the International Journal of Neural Systems, July. Honored at a two-day meeting at Boston University: An Anniversary Conference Celebrating Steve Grossberg@65 and CNS@15 held in the Department of Cognitive and Neural Systems (CNS) building. Frank Guenther: Invited Faculty Member, Linguistics Society of America Summer Institute. Presented a mini-course on speech production at the LSA Summer Institute, held at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Summer. Expert Commentator, Associated Press. Provided expert commentary concerning speech production for a technology article picked up by the Associated Press and published widely, appearing on cnn.com and hundreds of other newspapers and news websites around the world, August. Top Grant Score, NIH Motor Function in Speech and Rehabilitation Review Group R01 grant application "Sequencing and Initiation in Speech Production" received a percentile rank of 1.1% (highest score in a pool of approximately 90 applications), October. Plenary Lecturer, American Speech and Hearing Association Research Institute. One of four keynote lecturers in a one-day research symposium on speech research attended by approximately 600 members of the American Speech and Hearing Association, November.
